Storing your battery!
When you're storing a lead-acid battery, you should try to keep it cold and dry.
It's a common missunderstanding that the lead-acid battery can be damaged by being cold.
For a fully charged battery to freeze, it need to be really cold, about -67 degrees Celsius.
A badly charged battery may freeze, and be severely damaged.
Always make sure your lead-acid battery is fully charged before storing it.
If you're storing the battery for a long time, you might also want to check the state of charge once in a while.
A battery that is stored disconnected from the vehicle still looses some of its charge over time.
The cold temperature reduces these losses, but will not eliminate them.
Therefor it's important to check the state of charge every once in a while.
If the battery isn't fully charged, you may charge it, to avoid problems with sulphating and freezing.
With the right kind of charger, a maintenance charger, you can keep the battery connected, and charged, all the time.
That means that you don't have to worry about sulphating or freezing (as long as the ambient temperature stays above -60 degrees Celsius).
